"Music could perhaps be called the most truly human form of dialogue we are capable of. Though people may differ in the color of their skin, the language they speak, their customs and ways, or the material culture which surrounds them, the power of music makes it possible for them to instantly communicate and respond to each other's innermost feelings." (Daisaku Ikeda)
We were lucky to be able get two AEC-NET and WHAZZUP? schools together for a week in May. A group of 15 students led by teacher Geeta Rajan travelled all the way from New Delhi, India to the small town of Kaarina in Finland, to be hosted by students and teachers at Kaarina Senior High School. It was a wonderful week of sharing cultures and lives, forming new friendships and learning to get along across continents.
In our joint assembly, we shared music and dance from both countries, and put together this joint performance with singers from both schools. You may think it twee to sing 'We are the world' but for us, at that moment, the words couldn't have rung truer!
